PETERSON

Even Meg and a cell can't keep Tory from making a great piece of work.

Peterson is the latest project from Tory Lanez since his 2022 album Sorry 4 What, which follows a comeback to his sentencing for the trial that took place with Megan Thee Stallion. Tory earlier teased this project to be his best.

Tory finds himself in a place where he feels distant from those he loves on “Free Me”, capturing what he wanted this album to be; an album for those who are wrongfully kept away. “Sneeze Wrong” and “Verdict Day x Lawyer Fees Interlude” tap into his aggression where he can get things off his chest about his experience over the past few years. Which then beautifully transitions into “White Lightning”, “9$IDE Amethyst”, and “Lawyer Fees” which are songs that go back to the PLABOY vibes, but make it feel entirely new.

“Guide Me Through The Storm” is a more gospel-type song that features wise words and also heavy perspectives from his father Sonstar, and amazing vocals from Paul McKay. “MAWA Interlude x Lunch Tray” is probably the hardest-hitting song on the album featuring the one and only Max B. “Slippin x Falling” and “Charlie Row x Wishing Well” are the most personal songs of the album as Tory gets to express how the jail system can make a person feel when they have a supportive family, having features from his brother Yoko Gold.

“$ailor Moon” and “Phone Secs x Facetime” takes us back to Alone At Prom, bringing us new RNB anthems with features by King Midas and Davo. “TB’s Interlude *LIVE PHONE RECORDING* feels like one of those songs from Honestly Nevermind by Drake. “I Fxcked A Lady Cop” is a song for the prison system staff.

“T.D.F X LA County Jail” and “Back Out$ide” have the best production. “Gangland x Fargentina 4EVR” has the hardest-hitting drums on the album, which features his siblings and his son Wolfgang. The album ends with “Free Tory”, where he spazzes out and says everything he wanted everyone to hear.

This album showed that Tory won’t let anything get in the way of letting him do what he loves. He’s hopeful for his release, thankful to be alive, and grateful to have the support from his family and friends.
