“This is who Lady Gaga is to me” - Lady Gaga

After doing work for the character Harley Quinn in the motion picture Joker: Folie à Deux and a Jazz album titled Harlequin, Lady Gaga returns to her true self to deliver MAYHEM.

Lady Gaga describes the meaning behind the tracks in the making of MAYHEM as a way to “not try to give [her] music an outfit, but instead to allow [herself] to be influenced by everything”.

The album was previously released through the singles “Disease” and “Abracadabra,” which are now the opening tracks of the album. In an interview with Zane Lowe, she describes “Abracadabra” as the song that captures her sound, in a very experimental pop way, “The thing that was most important to me was being a student of music, above everything else”. She then transitions to a 2000 throwback type song with “Garden of Eden”.

Lady Gaga then taps into electro-grunge with “Perfect Celebrity” and “The Beast” expressing how she feels she is viewed when living as Lady Gaga, which is an alter ego performed by her true self, Stefani. Highlighting why this album is so personal to her. She ends the project with the new hit single “Die With A Smile” featuring the legendary Bruno Mars capturing their talent with incredible songwriting and performances from both artists.
