Japanese Breakfast: 10/08/21

On October 8, Japanese Breakfast played at the Ogden. The indie rock band was opened by Luna Li, a Toronto-born musician who is most definitely a rising star. Accompanied by her equally talented band, Luna sang ethereal, melodic tunes such as “Cherry Pit” and “Alone But Not Lonely”. She even busted out a performance on her violin!

The crowd went wild when Japanese Breakfast took the stage. Lead singer Michelle Zauner was dressed in a gorgeous pastel pink, ruffly dress paired with a red headband. Zauner’s eccentric, ever-changing outfits are a particular highlight of each Japanese Breakfast concert. The band got the audience jumping out of their seats with their performance of “Be Sweet”, but eventually transitioned to more mellow tunes like “Kokomo, IN”. An especially tender moment in the show was when they covered Dolly Parton’s “Here You Come Again”, which paired perfectly with Zauner’s sweet, delicate voice. Guitarist Peter Bradley (also Zauner’s husband) showed his incredible skills during performances like “Road Head”. The band closed with “Everybody Wants to Love You”, another fun, upbeat track to get the audience dancing before they had to leave. Overall, Zauner’s stage presence, the psychedelic lightshow behind the band, and the songs themselves certainly made this concert amazing.
