Petrichor
On November 15th, 070 Shake dropped her 3rd studio album Petrichor, which if you didn't know is the word to describe the smell of rain hitting dirt, a beautiful smell.
Departing from her last album You Can’t Kill Me in 2022, it was interesting to see where the artist would head after creating such an amazing work of art. You Can’t Kill Me set a high bar for what 070 Shake can create, as she delivered one of my favorite songs of all time “Skin and Bones”. So the announcement of Petrichor excited me and now a few months later after its release, I can say that Petrichor is great.
Out of the two projects released before Petrichor, You Can’t Kill Me was my favorite because it brought so many replayable well-written songs. Petrichor tries to do the same but misses its meaning and love within the songs as the production swallows the art of the album. Don’t get me wrong, the new production is insane, that is the highlight of this album along with her performances on tracks like “Elephant” “Pieces Of You” and “Lungs”. But something about the lyrics not being as magical as the ones on You Can’t Kill Me and Modus Vivendi makes it seem weaker. 070 Shake is capable of masterpieces and within time I will come to realize how great Petrichor is as I now have the urge to dive back into the album and enjoy the songs some more.
I am grateful for the new direction she is taking as testing out new sounds and ways to make music always leads to great progression and I do believe Petrichor will continue to grow on me. Great album; makes me excited for the next project.
