Melanie Martinez uses this album to confront her insecurities and self in whole. She creates a figment character "Cry Baby" through the album and tells the listeners about her deepest insecurities and the effect they have on how she outwardly shows herself to others and what parts of her she hides. But this album is meant for no more hiding, she talks about the fears we all have in this society that we aren't good enough and she goes through a whole battle with herself to find that it doesn't matter. The things others say about you can only truly effect you if you allow them, if you allow your "Cry Baby" inside to take control.
