Sometimes I Might Be Introvert - Little Simz (2021)

Releasing the fourth album in her current discography, Little Simz is back and better than ever. You may know her from her explosive TikTok anthem “Venom”, but as shown in Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, Simz is infinitely more than just a one-hit-wonder. She takes us through a winding journey through what it takes to be a woman both in today’s world and her individual life, including multiple tracks that detail her tumultuous relationships with various family members. “I Love You, I Hate You” is the most obvious of these tracks, as Simz describes her inner turmoil regarding the fact that after all her father has put her through, she can’t seem to let him go. Background vocals echoing the title emphasize this point. “The Rapper That Came to Tea - Interlude” is the midpoint for this record, taking it into a completely different direction including 80s pop anthems, synthesizers and funky beats, as can be heard in “Rollin Stone”. These interludes serve as retellings of Simz’s inner thoughts, guiding her through the twists and turns of her own mind. The album closes with “Miss Understood”, an incredibly interesting track in which Simz calls out her sister for apparently allowing her jealousy of Simz to ruin their relationship. However, it seems that despite all of the drama, Simz has made it out on top and knows it. Although Sometimes I Might Be Introvert is undeniably her most ambitious record, Little Simz certainly exceeds any expectations the audience may have for it, and it is worth every listen.
