Yazz Ahmed - Polyhymnia October 11

Easily the best jazz release of the year, Yazz Ahmed's Polyhymnia is a complex, intricately arranged, and beautifully composed set of six jazz masterpieces. Yazz's Arabic and Middle Eastern influences also come through in a noticeable and enjoyable way, making Polyhymnia a diverse musical expereience and unlike any other jazz album I have ever heard. There are also some lovely passages of poetry and spoken word on the album, broadcasting proudly messages of female empowerment and a greater understanding of cultures around the world.
