OMW2 REXDALE
NAV heads back to Rexdale; going back to his roots.
After a somewhat mediocre album with Demons Protected By Angels, NAV goes back to his roots, producing OMW2 REXDALE in its entirety with help from Cash XO, Ojivolta, and Wheezy, forming NAV’s best-produced album yet.
NAV opens up with a pretty deep track, “SINKING,” crying out for help, typical NAV. The second track is “YOU” featuring Don Toliver, where they literally “slide” (repeated line from the chorus) over this beat and create a movie. Then we get the smoothest transition into a song this year on “STAY UP” where he really brings back the vibes from his self titled album NAV, a fan favorite.
But NAV doesn’t forget to bring the hype with Wheezy on “BURBS” and “BACK 2 BUSINESS”. We then get “UNLIMITED,” a song that features Playboi Carti and that was previously expected to be released on Offset’s album SET IT OFF under the name “Rock Out”. But surprisingly, NAV was able to get his hands on the Carti verse and The Weeknd to do the outro vocals for the song. A crazy combination, but one not to miss.
In the second half of the album, NAV decides to go insane on the production. “U.N.I” is one of my favorite choruses and uses of a sample this year. “ONE OF NONE” uses distorted vocals to create a catchy chorus. “NXXD YOU” is NAV’s favorite song off the album, as he crafts the entire vibe of this album into one song. “REAL ME” was the lead single for the album featuring the one and only Metro Boomin, where the Perfect Timing duo comes together to create another banger. But the last quarter of the album, we get real deep on some of NAV’s most personal songs yet like “RED”, “KEEP GOING”, “GET 2 U”, and “PAIN AWAY”.
NAV went back to Rexdale and came back to deliver one of his best projects yet. Right now, he is promoting a bunch of songs that got cut from the album on his website for purchase, but it’s expected for him to drop a deluxe featuring those cut songs in the coming days, and when it does, we’ll be sure to link it below.
